Hi, i'm Benjie.
I grew up in Pomona, California during the 90’s.
While most kids paid attention in school, I doodled and drew to my hearts content. I took a lot of inspiration from what was around me, but also quickly took to rave and lowrider culture. My older brother would come back from parties with flyers and mixtapes that always piqued my interest visually and I would take some of that and share with my friends I would build lowrider bicycles with.
Eventually I began to work at the local underground clothing and record store in downtown Pomona (then The Globe and Radio Futura) where I cut my teeth learning what I would later realize was apparel design, art preparation for apparel and print, merchandising and sales on a very grass roots level.
From there I began to DJ and host my own events where I would need to make my own art for promotion and packaging. Dj’ing opened the door to me traveling and lead to me spending time in Tokyo, Japan during the ubiquitous rise of A Bathing Ape and fellow international streetwear brands, inspiring me to get back to apparel graphic design and brand direction. I mentally locked into that space and haven't left in over 20 years.
